Video SPOTlight: Beyonce - Who Run The World (Girls)

After much hype and delay Beyonces highly anticipated video for her first single "Who Run The World" premiered last night.  The video was previews on American Idol and later in full on Beyonceonline.com
The single is the first off her fourth solo album "4" which now has a Release date on June 28th.  A great marketing strategy in my opinion as it is two days after the BET Awards that Beyonce is sure to perform at.


The video had many elements that should make it a stellar come back for the diva.  Great setting in the Mojave Desert, High Fashion, Choreography and tons of attitude.  I feel these things though still did not make this video a winner.  It is a great video indeed and a standout in Beyonces long collection.  I just feel the hype which surrounded this video premiere made for high expectations that weren't met.

The video Directed by Francis Lawrence who also directed Lady Gagas Paparazzi video, created many great visuals.  The explosions the animals the fashion, camera angles and concept of Beyonce and an all girl sexy army warding off an army of strong men.  The video def got the point across of female empowerment.  Where i feel the video flopped at was the Choreography.  This video although a concept video it was also a very performance driven video.  The video relied heavily on the choreography showcasing Beyonces sexy moves and also new gritter technical dance moves.  I feel Beyonce is a great dancer and we have not seen the best of her.  I think she needs to be pushed more and given the right choreographer she will be able to do that.  What carries the video is Beyonce fierce confident personality.


I feel this video is above average and will she nominations in the future (vmas and bet awards).  The song should also help the single which is currently under performing on the billboard charts.  The video just doesn't posess that magic that Crazy in Love or Single Ladies had, but its hard to outdo herself when your Beyonce and have been at the top of the game for 15 Years.
