You'll find Microsoft's reason to sue Apple is here (http://phone.microsoftplatformready.com/Dashboard.aspx). Guess Microsoft is protecting itself from a legal butt kicking by being preemptive.

Okay, a FrontRow/AirPort Express/iTunes-downloadable Media Center device is SWEET!! I bet that is EXACTLY what we see Apple delivering!!
Now my bet is on that Apple has been watching this thread to see what we come up with and will now halt the announcement of this great device to punish us all:rolleyes:

Uh no I didn't. I just interpreted the law. As someone implied earlier, this could all be a ruse. I might not have done anything I said in this thread. No one here can know 100% for sure, because you did not witness the event I claim occurred. That simple fact, in addition to any record searching anyone did without a warrant (which would be an invasion of privacy) would get anything I say in this thread thrown out of court faster than you could blink.

    -Don

fair enough, let me reword that: you just admitted that the person going 90mph, intentionally cuts off the other, and slams breaks in this hypothetical scenario is the one thats doing the wrong. give me a break.

EDIT: I'm not saying any of this is usable in court (even though i would), Im just saying that throughout this entire thread, your telling everyone how right you are, yet in the post i quoted, you admitted that your actions are wrong.

Maybe they should have run all their benchmarks at the same time!It also depends if you can run multiple instances of that application. A little help here Multimedia? I know you've used multiple instances of Toast. Care to enlighten us on what other applications we can do the same? Maybe we should make a guide on it...

Kentsfield consists of two Conroe dies, each featuring two cores and 4MB of L2 cache.
I thought so. We've beaten Core 2 Duo chips to death and their design.

Backlit keyboard on it and I am in. Perfect form factor and feature set for what I do all day every day. And less weight in my bag

Currently have the 13 mbp and would love to get a MBA to lighten my load.

An .exe is an executable, not an application. Some people may have called them applications, but not MS. Never. Until now.

See the screenshot posted all over this thread. Application has been used to described the filetype associated with .EXE in Windows Explorer for quite a while.

The fact is, Application has been in use in the Windows world forever. Win16 and Win32 are APIs and API means Application Programming Interface.

This is all besides the point, Apple is not trying to trademark Application or App. They are trying to trademark Grocery Store to sell their Groceries.

as I type this reply, using Safari, I open and close different "windows" on my iMac.

It's a good thing then that Microsoft's trademark on "Windows" does not apply to the graphical squares you see on screen but to Operating Systems then.

Sooo looking forward to this! I'll probably get one from the Apple Store the following day maybe. Highest stock model for me! Well, unless the price jumps up from the current one. Oh and a bad GPU will make me buy a new PC that day. So come on good GPU!

Sorry, but that's a ridiculous comparison. The only Mac you can reasonably compare the XPS 700 to is the Mac Pro, which has a lot more computing power for that kind of money.

My point is that with the new processors and RAM upgrades, the iMac is headed towards more powerful use that could potentially switch over a PC gamer. If you wanted to do some serious gaming on the 24" iMac you could....if not for the poor video card options.

Throw a dog a bone here and at least give us a 512MB option.

I'm not sure why there is so much argument about the term "app". The trademark is for "App Store" not for "app". It would be like arguing that "Burger King" is not a valid trademark because "burger" is a generic term.

Maybe you're right, maybe not... I mean, I doubt the guys went in in Kevlar suit saying "we take the loot, not matter what. If someones try to stop us, we kill him". In a bank robbery maybe they would but I doubt they were ready to kill somebody only for a few iPads...

    But that's just me.

And in the heat of the moment with fractions of a second to decide, he's suppose to consider the possibility that this guy just wants a free iPad and probably won't shoot to kill him?

    I don't think so.

    Don't pull it!!!!!

I'm NOT in favor of drinking and driving, but I am in favor of freedom. I don't like the idea of ANY government control over things like this. Too many darn laws to begin with.

I downloaded this app. It's pretty cool! The DUI thing is like the least useful. There is all sorts of good traffic info on this app. Love it!

...and by the way yes this thread has gone off topic, partly my fault because I couldn't believe some stupid posts and felt obliged to respond. I won't drag the thread any further down this path because it's not the right place to do it.

I saw the Greenpeace activists today at MacExpo. There were two outside the venue, and about six at the train station nearby.

They were quiet and calm, but I do actually agree with the Event Organisers that kicked them out - if you break the rules, you pay the consequences, and they admit they broke the rules, so boo hoo to them.

I also question the 'environmentally friendliness' of them handing out thousands of flyers to anybody who walks past, so the flyers end up strewn across the street at the end of the day, or chucked away.

I think their argument has also been shot to pieces by counter evidence.

I have respect for people who take a stand on principles, but not people who take a stand because they want to be subversive or outspoken for the sake of it. I believe Greenpeace have lost the plot.

Whats the issue with regards to TV shows only available to the USA. Why can't they be made available in the UK and Europe.

Different regions, different distributors and laws.

Cloud storage already exists. Look at dropbox, amazon, wuala, Carbonite. Lots of stuff which can handle user files and media already. Again, the person I quoted was talking about things in 2016, so quite possible for things to change by then.

He was talking about the fact that "Cloud storage" uses physical media. ;) The cloud is not some kind of magic thing, it's just a bunch of physical disks and servers. And those disks and servers aren't anything special either, they are your typical server computer and the disks are also your standard server based disk, grouped up in a volume manager over massive raid arrays.

i'm sorry but the 30G iPod has a stupid price. If someone is that tight and has to get an iPod, they would probably buy used.

there are plenty of reasons people might avoid buying a used ipod, or simply want a new one.

speaking for those of us who are, as you put it, "tight," i for one would appreciate it if you... didn't.

$350 is 40% more than $250. to some of us, that's a lot. i think apple understands that, and probably has some pretty damn good data behind their pricing scheme.

i have to say, reading all these whiny complaints, everyone sounds like Comic Book Store Guy from the simpsons. i don't get where exactly the sense of entitlement comes from? i mean, obviously they're doing the best they can... what, are they holding back some awesome features, just to piss you off?

OMG! Are you kidding me. This is outrageous.

You mean that my phone has been tracking all my comings and goings. Like how everyday I go to work, pick up the kids from daycare and take them home. Rinse and repeat. You mean there is a file with all those boring stats of my not so secret life. And to think next week I was planning on varying it up a bit. Maybe stopping off at acquire the essential items I need for my new job as a "cleaner" on my way to get the kids.

    /end sarcasm/

The only people who will get bent about this are the ones who have no reason to be.

Enjoy it, I love my 13".

They'll change the key and force a firmware update on any airport express user who wants to update itunes.

Unlikely - this would require the new private key be embedded in the firmware update package, which would defeat the purpose of replacing the old key.

This is a fundamental issue with DRM solutions - you, as the consumer, have to hold the private key. They (Apple) can obfuscate where that key is, but in the end it has to be accessible in some manner. It's the same thing with iTunes DRM. If someone cares enough, they can almost certainly retrieve the private key (which is how Requiem works).

I'm guessing Apple may make some half-hearted move or another; but I doubt they care all that much.
